The first common image of our classroom in our mind is the place where it is always filled with strict and boring atmosphere. Of course, the main reason why teacher exists in classroom is to deliver their knowledge to students. However, it would be not helpful if the students don't concentrate on their lecture because of the way teacher teaches is not interesting and enjoyable to them at all. Therefore, teacher's role should be involved not only in delivering informations to students but also in making their lecture interesting to students.
First of all, making learning enjoyable is the best way to encourage students to study volunteerly with having an interest about study. If the lecture is fun for students, it would be efficient to eliminate their bias that studying is boring and hard. For example. one of science teacher in my middle school always prepared amazing and funny experiment for students not to give them impression that science is so hard to understand. After that, most of the students started to be interested in science class due to his continuous effort to make learning science enjoyable. According to the study by 'Science' magazine, if the teachers spend more time about 20% to make learning enjoyable before the lecture, the portion of students who participate in class eagerly would be increased to almost 50%.
Second, the efficiency of study are more likely to increase with interesting lecture. Most of the lectures force students to understand or memorize lots of theories without giving them any interest, so students have a tendency to forget what they have learn easily. However, the lecture which is enjoyable for students remains in student's brain for a long time. From my experience, I was able to be really good at math because of my mathematics teacher at high school. He always changed difficult concepts or formula of math to songs so that students could easily comprehend and memorize it by singing the fun lyrics of formula. On the other hand, some people claims that making students enjoyable during the class could have an bad influence on students's concentration on study in that they might spend their time just laughing or chatting with their classmate because of distracted atmosphere. However, according to the research by Korea university in 2007, the efficiency of study is the highest when students laugh and feel interested about something.
To sum up, providing students enjoyable lecture would be helpful in many ways in that it makes students interested in studying even subjects which is considered as boring class. Futhermore, we can expect that the efficiency of study would be also increased much higher due to the fun class. |
