The passage mentioned that these performances of children are addictive; yet, the lecturer opposed to this fact by talking about how anything that they enjoy is addictive. The lecturer rebuffs the reading passage’s standpoint by countering the idea of how violent video games encourage aggressive tendencies. He supported his view with the fact that overall violent crime rate is currently lower compared to 30 years ago. During his lecture, he mooted to his students, “shouldn’t this rate have gone up instead of decline?” He further indicated that many people believe that video games give safety to children by letting them to blow off their steam. Games, such as the shooting ones, require intelligence, interactive skills and the ability to solve problems quickly. Since video games expect children to have fast decision making, games are actually highly valued. Therefore, the listening passage went against the reading passage’s view, video games encourage aggressive tendencies. In the lecture, doubt was expressed concerning whether video games are really destructive to children’s lives. The lecturer projected doubts that contradicted with the central stand point of the reading. |
