people learn more by watching television than reading books. |
It is often said that watching television is more useful for people to learn something than reading books. Some people might agree with the statement because television provides people with the images that help them understand effectively. However, I strongly support the idea of reading books when learning for two reasons. First, reading books enables people to learn more in-depth knowledge and information. Moreover, it is more efficient way to learn. To begin with, by reading books, people can gain professional and special knowledge and information. In general, most TV programs tend to release the information that everyone can understand easily because a television is one of mass media. If television programs deal with special contents that specific and erudite people can only understand, many people are not likely to watch those programs. What is worse, a program rating will be dropped. For example, during my university years, I wrote the paper on the economic trend in Moreover, reading book makes people learn more with ease. This is due to the fact that with books people can get knowledge at time when they want to study. However, in the case of TV, people have to pick the programs according to the time-schedule of TV broadcast. To be specific, with reading books, if they have parts that they do not understand, people can review those parts as they want, and also find another material that helps them understand difficult parts. In contrast, in the case of watching television, people should record the programs on the video tape or wait to rebroadcast that program, in order to review those difficult parts. As well, it is hard to find the program that provides additional explanation. In this sense, because reading books enables people to learn within a short time and to gain plenty of materials, it helps them to learn more.
In conclusion, I firmly believe reading books is more helpful in learning the knowledge and information because it provides people with professional and specific material. In addition, people can learn efficiently, without having a problem with time-schedule or lack of resource. Therefore, it is quite obvious that in order to gain more knowledge, people should go to a library rather than a living room. |
