People should read only those books that are about real events, real people, and established facts |
It is often said that it is much better to read only those books that reflected reality. Some people might agree with the statement because these books encourage people to inspire their motivation. However, in contrast to this point, I strongly believe that reading fictional books is more beneficial for people. The rationale behind this is that most fiction stories are much more interesting than nonfiction books. Another reason is that fictions enables people to develop their creativity.
To start with, reading fictions is much more funny and interesting. Of course, nonfiction stories sometimes can be helpful for obtaining lessons and useful information. However, most nonfictions have boring and gloomy stories. On the other hand, fictional books usually have fantastic flows and unique characters in their books. To be specific, according to the recent research released by the Ministry of Education of Korea in 2006, more than 82 percent of students have spent their leisure time reading fictional books as one of the best methods to relieve their stress. Also, they said that although reading nonfictions seemed to be beneficial for their study, spending time reading fictional stories is a much more effective way to ease their heavy tensions originated from their study. They even said that reading nonfictions such as newspapers is somewhat stressful because they usually contain gloomy stories like suscides and divorces.
On top of that, fictions help people improve their creativity. This is largely because most fictional stories such as scientific novels have wonderful stories beyond their mundane life. Thus, people can freely dream the stories beyond their imaginations. To take a personal example, when I was senior in elementary school, I had read lots of scientific novels, unlike my classmates reading nonfictions. At first, reading fictions seemed to be waste of time, which did not directly help getting better grades. However, I have contiuously read fictional stories since that time. Nowadays, it has became important background and knowledge base to support my writing as one of the famous writers in Korea. If I had not read fictions for a long time, I would have had difficult making new ideas as a source of my books.
To sum up, without any hesitation, I firmly believe that reading fictional stories is much more beneficial than reading nonfictions. The reasons are that reading fictions is very interesting and helpful for developing people's imaginations. On the whole, if you are under pressure, read a novels! They will charge your batteries. |
