The government has announced that it plans to build a new university. Some people think that your community would be a good place to locate the university. Compare the advantages and disadvantages of establishing a new university in your community. Use specific details in your discussion. |
Last year, I saw the people in the Kangwon province in Korean who really wished to host the Winter Olympic Game on TV. Many of them converged their wish and passion to make it happen to have a huge international event into their town. However, it is true that not all of the people had the same wish. The given topic reminded me of the controversial conflict between two people in the area. I will provide some advantages and disadvantages when our town locates a new university in our place. There are several advantages of having a new university for our town. To begin with, the community in our town developed gradually because there would a huge number of people coming over to our town. The group consists of students, parents, faculties, and even office workers for the university. Consequently, these people may need lots of facilities such as restaurants, coffee shops, and bookstores around the school area in our town and then it will prosper the economy of our town. In fact, when the Hankook University located some of its departments to the new town, the area changed dramatically where people opened new business from the influx of the great number of the population and made humongous profits out of them. In addition, the people in our town may have a great opportunity to get access to the school facilities and educational programs. Nowadays, many of universities and colleges have demonstrated the school vision to get harmonized with the local people and community by opening their programs and facilities for the needed to be able to use them. As an example, my uncle who has run a farm is taking a free computer class offered by the university and has been adopting the up-to-date computer technology into his farm. His farm is now producing twice products. As these examples illustrate well, it is obvious that our community will enjoy the economic development and access to the university facilities by having a new university. Despite the aforementioned benefits of locating a new university in our town, there are many suspicion and criticism regarding doing so. First of all, the town will be suffering from the increasing noise due to various activities of the students. Almost every spring and fall, the university would try to have school activities where students go crazy making disgusting noise from shouting and playing the music. The people in our community would not be able to have the regular sleeping schedule and then suffer from the stress and insomnia. According to the police, there were more conflicts or even physical fights between the local people and students when the university was having a school festival. Furthermore, the old traffic system in our town would be more serious problem when having a new university. The government almost gave up improving the traffic condition because the road was too narrow to expand and the bus company had to suffer from the constant deficits for the bus route. In this situation, the traffic in our town will be paralyzed every morning. The local people will not get out of the town for work and the students will be late for the class every day. Considering these ideas and examples, having a new university in our town is always shining and positive for our community. Considering as many perspectives as possible about the advantages and the disadvantages of having a new university in our town, it is extremely hard to argue which is better for our community. Because all the ideas and examples in the both position are true and convincing, it is dangerous to have slapdash perspective for the agenda for all in our community. Although locating a new university in our town will be tempting, it may be bring tremendous disasters into our town if we just take it carelessly. |
