Some people might think that universities should use their funds to support social activities for students. However, in my opinion, universities should invest in improving food at cafeterias for two reasons - student's health and saving their money.
To begin with, students can have a well-balanced diet by taking in improved food at cafeterias. Out of campus, there are few options for students to choose food which is even sharp-tasting to attract students. However, cafeterias in universities can provide much more nutritious food for students. Not only that, universities can hire food managing experts who can make a plan to offer well-balanced diet. According to studies at Education Institute in Europe, students who usually ate out of campus showed worse in nutrition than students who did not. They had a high proportion to be fat, since they had detrimental food such as junk food with high cholesterol. However, unlike outside food, universities provided healthy food with fruits and vegetables, so students could balance their nutrition.
On top of that, students can save their money on food. By using funds to improve food, universities can provide it with much lower costs than restaurants out of campus. It can help students spend more money on studying instead. For example, I usually ate food at a cafeteria to save my money while in university. Comparing to food sold by restaurants, it was considerably cheap. When the time goes by, the university decided to lower food price at the cafeteria. With the decision of the university, I can reduce expenditure more than before. Also, my friends changed their mind to eat food at the cafeteria, because the food was not only cheap, but also delicious.
To sum up, students can be beneficial from the decision of university to use their funds to improve food, since they can be more healthier and save their money. Though social activities are also important, their health and expenditure are extremely essential in their school life. In this regard, I insist that universities should find effective ways to improve food at university cafeterias. |
