Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? University athlethic departments should receive the same amount of funding as university libraries. Use specific reasons and examples to supprot your answer. |
There are arguments that university athletic departments should receive the same amount of funding as university libraries. Some people explains that it is out of mind because in the "real world", sports are considered a waste of time. However, sports improve students' physical health and social skills. Therefore, universities should invest an equal amount of money in both their students' sports activities and university libraries. To starts with, sports activities are a fundamental factor in promoting students' physical health. This is evidenced by a number of studies that a variety of physical activities such as jogging, cycling, walking strengthen bones, muscles, and joints. From my experience, I had to study for a long time to admit a university when I was in high school. At that time I was always fatigued with studying. I could not break fatigue until I admitted in the university. After I entered the university, I played sports such as tenis, soccer and golf with my friends. Amazingly, I could get my health. At that time, I realized that students could get benifits through sports activities. In addition, sports activities improve students’ social skills. This is because sports include a wide variety of group activities such as soccer, foot ball and baseball that require collective effort and cooperation. The best example of this is a soccer game. When participating in soccer games, students have the chance to learn how to cooperate and work as a team. They pass the ball to one another and strive to achieve their common goal which wins at each game. To summarize, I definitely believe that the universities should give the same amount of funds to students’ sports activities as they do to their libraries. I agree with the saying "a sound mind in a sound body". In other words, students' mental fitness from healty social realtionships and physical health are the most important factors for their success. |
