A zoo has no useful purpose |
It is often said that spending time and money in a zoo is unworthwhile. Some people might agree with the statement considering tremendous cost in order to maintain zoological parks. However, in opposition to this point, I strongly believe that zoos have lots of positive functions. The rationale behind this is that zoological parks help children learn about nature. Another reason is that zoos contribute to saving endangered animals.
To start with, zoos offer children a great chance to learn about nature. In other words, zoological parks play a important role in educating children how significant we are harmony with nature. This is largely because in zoos, children can have hand-on experiences by breathing fresh air and attentively listening to animals' sound and touching their body. To take a personal example, when I was a freshmam in elementary school, our class went to Seoul national zoological park which was one of the most famous parks in Korea. In the zoos, I found out that there are many different kind of species that I had not known before going that zoo, as well as human around the world by watching huge animals and giving them small food. Also, I realized that their life was as much valuable as humans' life. Thanks to the visit, I was able to better understand other species' life and think how important humans and animals should be harmony with each other.
On top of that, zoological parks have a positive influence on saving endangered species. This is mainly because zoos provide wild animals with optimal places to maintain and reproduce their life with nutritious food and safe space. Thus, endangered species have a great opportunity to maintain their life. The best example is White Tiger in Korea. Five years ago, White Tigers seldom remained in Korea because of destruction of their nature habitat. Shortly before they almost died, they fortunately were transfered to a zoological park and offered new safe house that resembled with their original home with sufficient food. As a result, they could relive and regain their life reproduing lots of their babies in a zoo. If it had not been for zoos' help, all tigers would have died at the end.
To sum up, without any hesitation, I firmly believe that zoological parks play a critical role in society. This is not only because zoos positively impact children's education but also because zoos make a contribution to protecting endangered animals. On the whole, I definitely believe that zoological parks are one of the most important functions. |
