Do you agree with the following statement? The toefl test is wonderful test. Use reasons and examples to support your answers. |
These days many Korean students are almost crazy about taking the Toefl test. This phenomenon is largely due to their desire to go to the University from overseas and to enter a special foreign high school. As a criterion of good English, those students should take Toefl test to mark almost perfect scores. However I’m doubtful that this type of test provided by holy sacred ETS is the most efficient way to show students’ ability in English. Yes. I don’t agree with the statement that the Tofle test is a wonderful test. Because it is exceedingly expensive and also the score doesn’t show one’s English skill fully.
Most of all, I hate the Toefl test because it is just costly. Once you take the test you should pay a hundred and seventy bucks for the ETS. If I failed to score less than the college requires, I should keep paying those fortunes until I reach the required points. Toeic is also provided by ETS but costs one forth of the Toefl. Even though the Toefl needs detailed examination for the additional speaking section and so called integrated writing section, It is absurd to pay 4 times more money for the test that doesn’t express 4 times more English skills of test takers. It is truly stressful to both students and their parents. And what’s more annoying to me is that there are not enough seats in
Furthermore, This agonizingly taken test unfortunately doesn’t show tester’s English skill well. I heard that one testee go through nearly 100 essays each day. So I assume that they will not be able to “consider” deeply about those essays presented to them. One of my academy classmates had been studied Toefl for 3 months and took the test and got 20 on the writing part and 108 for total. Since she should score more than 110 she took the test again. However she unfortunately had no time to write 3 bodies with full explanation, she paied more attention to introduction and conclusion instead; but she kept the lengthy body not with examples but with rephrased sentences. The result was surprising. she scored 28. This taught me that testee loves well written introduction and conclusion. They choose the way to care those two parts in the world of essay piles. I am not sure how they deal with speaking section. I am not so faithful about scoring process of testees.
To conclude, I actually dislike the Toefl test for not being appropriate in both test fee and test process. It costs too much and gives suspicion for not giving faithful score that shows testers’ English skill well. Why does not ETS take action to cut the test fee to the half and unfold scoring process in public transparantly by now? |
