Do you agree or disagree? - Games are as important for adults as they are for children. - |
Games have accompanied us with the development of human civilization. They not only allow people to develop a great social relationship between each other, but also provide pleasure in our daily lives. Some people might agree with this idea, focusing on the positive traits of a game. In my point of view however, it is not beneficial for adults to play games, whereas it could be enjoyable for children. This is because the nature of game incites grown-ups only to win and gain more. It also leads to poor productivity.
There is a big difference between kids and adults in their attitudes while playing match. While the former, i.e. kids, only seek amusement from these activities, the latter, i.e. adults, pursue money from them. As a result, gambling has been a major business for games in adults' world. In Las Vegas, thousand of people visit and gamble everyday on games such as slot machines. These instill a blind faith of getting huge amount of money into partakers, making them addicted to them thus eventually leading them to bankruptcy. This has become a serious social problem and the U.S. government is taking actions to deal with this issue by building advisor institutes and promoting campaigns. Regardless of its efforts, the number of victims has not gone down. To a certain extent, more and more adults are gathering to "house" each day with the dream of obtaining millions. This social tendency clearly indicates that the game between adults produces gambling, which demands a person to beat others in order to obtain a lot of money.
In addition, playing also has a negative impact on working efficiency too. As I mentioned above, it is very hard to control and quit once a game has started because of its addictive characteristic. Ultimately, this causes people to not be able do their tasks properly and finish them on time. For example, when I was in college, I really loved to hang out with my friends. We used to go pubs and play board games there while drinking beer. This activity was so pleasurable that I could not imagine my life with out it. Even though my final examination was on the very next day, my friends and I could not stop this exciting game. We stayed up all night without studying for the test. To no surprise, I got a really terrible score on my test and had to take a make-up test to compensate for my poor results. Judging from personal experience, it is evident that games are not advantageous for adults who have to be productive in order to fulfill their given duties.
To sum up, I strongly argue that games are not as crucial for grown-ups as they are for the children. Some people might say that a little entertainment can give people some relaxation and increase side profits. But they have to remember the fact that the true identity or characteristics of game is "addiction". Its main purpose it to pull people in, never to escape from the deep swamp of engrossment in the game itself |
