Most advertisements make products seem much better than they really are. |
Nowadays, our lives would not be imagined without TV. In particular, TV advertisements are called the flower in TV, which means that the TV advertisement takes up a great deal of portion in TV. Not only that, daily newspapers that we read have special advertisement sections. Such advertisements are expected to provide customers with important information over the products and decorate the products with special meanings to woo the customers. In opposition to this point of view, rather, I strongly affirm that the advertisements are not playing proper roles to make the products seem good enough. The rationale behind this is that there are too many advertisements and also falsehoods in the advertisements. Additionally, the price of the commodities advertised is more costly than others. More than anything else, an astronomical amount of advertisement is being poured every day. Because there are so many competing companies over the same items, they all make advertisements for their products to lure customers. However, the customers become suffering from choosing right choices for their needs. In this process, they are supposed to spend a lot of time searching for hundreds of advertisements to buy desirable products. Many of them tend to think purchasing a product is like a job taking up energy, time, and money because of too many advertisements. For them, the meanings of the products can fade away. Thus, it is strikingly obvious that too many advertisements give lots of stress to the customers about the products. Not only the extreme number of advertisements, but the falsehood in the advertisements gives negative images when people try to buy products. Because the competition to sell the products is intensified, some of companies try to deceive the customers directly or indirectly by manipulating their advertisements. For instance, my friend had to lose his a huge amount of money when he tried to buy the condominium advertised on TV and in the newspaper because the things in the condominium were totally different from the real one. When he visited the condominium, there was no light from outside, and some walls were cracked down. Later, he found that the company beautified the condominium by computer processes to attract customers. As my friend’s case illustrates, it would be extremely dangerous to believe the advertisements when people purchase products. The last but the least, those products in the mass-media raise the price of them although the quality of the commodities is almost the same with those which are not. Because companies pour huge amount of capitals to market and advertise their products, they would want to get more profits than they invest. In this case, the burden to fill up will be automatically given to consumers having to pay more money to get those products. In fact, if we see the prices of the products that famous celebrities advertise, they are incomparable to those of the products from retailers or wholesalers even though the quality of the products is not significantly different. The users of the products always take a responsibility to pay for the advertising expense whether they want or not. In this respect, the advertisement only gives the great burden to pay more money to buy the products having the same quality. In sum, I strongly argue that products advertised do not look better and even can look worse for the aforementioned reasons. Although it is true that customers need advertisements for the products they want to purchase, they might have financial and psychological damages if they ignore the double-edges of advertisements. Therefore, when people look at or read advertisements to buy things, they can be more suspicious to have better choices. |
