Subsequent industrial, technological revolutions led 21st century-men’s life with abundance; at the same time, we had no choice but to adapt into a life of rush, overloaded work, and aloofness. Seeking a deviation from over-stressful and rigid life cycle, a lot of us seem to be drawn to the attraction of traveling. While some of us prefer journeying with others, I personally believe traveling by yourself has overweighing benefits, for you are able to assimilate yourself to the culture visiting and you have more time to ponder upon yourself, which seems the first and foremost reason for a lot of us to travel.
First off, traveling alone lets you be more engrossed with local culture and encounter invaluable things. When you have a companion in journey, you cannot help yourself from concerning about them since he or she will be with you at all times most likely. You might have to relinquish eating a local Kebab since your friend traveling with you is allergic to Indian Curry sauce. Or you might have to let the Great Wall stand by itself as your friend insists she cannot climb there for her tiredness. However, when you are alone, you have more leeway to encounter with new exuberant, exotic experiences; you are able to be more absorbed with the local culture. I have this friend whose parents are the voyagers; he has been to four different continents despite he is still a teenager. However, he claims that the best trip that he ever had is the one to Kyong Ju, which is a South Korean city famous for Shilla Dynasty’s capital, since it was the first trip that he carried on by himself. According to him, he could meet various people including foreigners from France and 70-year-old lady who told him fascinating stories about the Bul Guk Sa, a world heritage site located in Kyong Ju city. Unlike many trips he had with his parents, he was able to listen to other people carefully and enjoy his time to the fullest by adapting to the local culture of Kyong Ju.
At the same time, you are able to focus on yourself while traveling. This is actually one of the crucial reasons why people decide to deviate from the daily lives. Usually when people get weary of monotonous jobs they are carrying on, get depressed due to a sudden, personal problem, or just need something to refresh, they travel. Thus, traveling alone will be more effective since you are a total stranger to whatever country, village, or city you are visiting; nobody knows your identity and what you have done; thus you do not have to worry about those burdensome thoughts you were imbued with for past couple of weeks. My dad personally had a hard time carrying out his business in his early forties, and decided to travel an area near a local mountain and bivouac there. The trip was truly successful for he was able to clear his thoughts and determine himself with no one talking about entangled situation of his company and his wrong decision. I found him just as confident as he was after the little journey to the mountain.
On the whole, I believe it is much better to travel by yourself rather than with a companion. By traveling alone, you will find yourself more well-rounded as a cosmopolitan, by interacting with different sorts of people coming from worldwide as well as local people with distinct culture. At the same time, you can truly be yourself by sort of egoistically focusing on yourself, instead of others so that the journey can be a refreshing memory to you. |
