27. People should sometimes do things that they do not enjoy doing. Agree. |
There are many great people: scholars who show deep understanding about a subject, musicians who play string instruments very well, and writers who deliver great wisdoms of the world. They have been in their position because they have enjoyed their works wholeheartedly. However, we need to recall that their jobs always entail boring things. In fact, such boredom is a part of the procedure to be great, and sometimes motivates a person. Enduring boring things is a step towards a goal one wants to achieve in the end. It should be admitted that people cannot do only things they fully enjoy doing in order to succeed. We can think about a mathematician. Understanding the order of numbers and abstract spaces is the main job of the scholar. Reviewing his article, we might be surprised by the succinct and elegant description of the topic. At this point, however, we have to be cautious. There must be huge amount of tedious calculations and mistakes during the completing the article. The scholar might have wasted hundreds of sheets of scratch paper. I believe no mathematician in the world from the past to the future enjoys such tasks. They are just a section of the process approaching to truth. To be a good mathematician includes keeping efforts on those boring works. They should not be avoided or abandoned. In addition, somebody can find new interests by doing what he or she had not enjoyed before. For instance, it is impossible for a boy who has no experiences on driving a car to know whether he can have fun with driving. To be more specific, I had no idea how to manage wood handicrafts. When I was in fifth grade, I attended practical-study class, in which I had learned to make a wooden box to store the national flag. The practice involved measuring, cutting, and nailing, each of which required several tens of minutes. It was fairly long time to endure for ten-year-old boy. Nevertheless, after I had finished the handicraft, I realized that I would really like to make things with woods. It was a lot of fun. If I hesitated to attend the class for the reason I did not enjoy such works, I would lose one of my favorite hobby. In conclusion, doing things one does not want to do is unavoidable; rather, it is necessary in order to achieve what one really wants and find what one can enjoy in the future. I recommend you to try everything and endure until you can find something attractive. |
