Hackers test #1 in Integrated Section. |
The lecturer casts doubt on the effectiveness of expatriate workers, who are hired from home country and sent abroad to work. She is on the contrast to the reading passage’s argument that explains the advantages of expatriates for both company and employees. According to a case study, the company noticed that management cost of foreign business is really high. This is mainly because the workers are unfamiliar with the local culture. The workers found it difficult to communicate due to poor language skill and bad understanding of endemic people, hence to do the business. Moreover, the financial load to let a worker and his or her family live abroad was quite high. These facts refute the reading passage’s claim that company will eventually benefit financially by expatriate workers. In addition, the employees found it tough to work in a foreign country. They are frustrated rather than stimulated by the culture. The deficient communication led them feel isolation. Also, the family lives in exotic place were not convenient. For instance, it was hard for the expatriates to find familiar goods or suitable schooling for their children. Those directly resulted in decrease in performance. The prospect of the reading passage that workers will be stimulated to be in a different culture and performance will increase accordingly due to their happy life, is disclaimed by the result of the study. |
