In the lecture, the professor talks about 4-day work week and 32 hours system. She mention several drawbacks of that system. This view entirely oppose to the reading passage that gives three advantages which can draw from that system. To begin with, the teacher talks about disadvantages which employers can get. When workers works 4days in a week, employers suffer from financial problem. They will have to pay more money hiring more employers. It is natural that there will be lack of workers so they should hire more employees either. Also, there are need for more desks and computers. These all need time and money of employers. It effectively rebuts the reading passage which mention some good results that 4-day workweek system will give. Futhermore, the professor talks about effects on employees. According to the reading, the writer told that new working arrangements will give workers more time to relax themselves with friends and families. However, she reputes this opinion by giving some explanations. Employees will have so short time to develop their working skills, so there are less growth to employees. Naturally, they will lose self confidence easily, and they feel that they are less competitive than 5-day workweek workers. In this sense, 4-day work week never pleasure to them. Lastly, she mention economic problems. Because of less time to produce goods, productivity will reduce, too. Moreover, because employees get smaller income from work, they will buy less amount of goods. It is apparent that this affect economy negatively. This casts doubts to the reading, either. Reading says that this system will create more jobs and this phenomenon will boom business fields. To sum up, the professor completely disagree with reading passage in three aspects; empoleyers, empolyees and economy. |
