▶ Your Answer :
The total amount of energy available is
decreasing in the globe. Therefore, not only the government, but also all of
individuals have to consider the way to conserve energy seriously. Some people
contend that the only way to encourage for people to save energy is increasing
the prices of energy. However, I think it is not good for the following
reasons: first, increasing the prices of gasoline and electricity is too
forceful to be chosen in democratic society, and second, there will exist other
alternatives because scientists and engineers are developing other energy
sources.
First of all, I think price gouging is
fairly coercive way for democratic societies to adapt. Many people think that
increasing the prices of energy will result in energy conservation, and I agree
with them to some degree. However, the way is improper despite its
effectiveness. There are different ways to choose to reduce the amount of
energy people use. For example, the government can conduct campaigns to
encourage people to save energy. In the campaign, the government can let people
to reduce the amount of wasted energy by using compelling slogans such as,
"Save energy, save children." Such statements will touch people's
minds, and consequently make them conserve energy. In this context, I strongly
believe that increasing the prices of gasoline and electricity is not the best
way for the government to adopt.
On top of that, the development of
technology will save us from energy deficiency. It is because many scientists
and engineers have been devoted to making more green, sustainable energy
sources. Almost all of us have been heard about these alternatives including
wind power, solar power, biofuel, etc. The level of the technologies is
considerable now, and so we can adopt several ways to generate enormous amount
of electricity without polluting an environment someday. After these
alternatives become dominant in electricity generation, the government do not
have to find the way to make people conserve energy. Therefore, I believe
investing for the development of other energy sources will be the better way
than increasing energy prices.
To sum up, not only is increasing the
prices of energy too coercive, but also there is the alternative like developing
sustainable energy sources. Therefore, raising the prices is not the only and
best way for the government to choose to conserve energy. |
