▶ Your Answer :
In the reading passage, there
is ample support for the author’s claim that Lambeosaurus’s crest had few roles.
However, the professor in the lecture gives several reasons as a rebuttal to the
author’s point.
First, the
professor contends that it is doubtful for crest to be used for attracting
mates. Reptiles usually use the sound to appeal to their potential mate. For
example, crocodile, the close animal to dinosaur, lifts and downs their head to
make noisy sound when they try to tempt the female. This cast doubt on the
reading passage’s claim that the crests grew and changed as they got older and
female more preferred larger one.
Next, the professor
insists that crests were not used as combat with the other species. According
to its fossil indicating the Lambeosaurus were in fight, the dinosaur poses as
standing backward. Also, the crests are fragile to engaging because its
internal structure is hollow. This counters the reading passage’s assertion
that large protrusion used as protective helmet and means of striking.
Finally, the
professor argues that crests did not provide the sufficient air. Lambeosaurus
is such a huge animal that needs a lot of oxygen. It might rather take a deep
breath than of being provided by crests. This refutes the reading passage’s
suggestion that crests was for supplying air when it dived in underwater for protract
time.
