A large number of people might argue that
rapid development has positively affected society because it rescued people
from dangerous work. Contrary to the popular belief, I think that rapid
development has negatively affected society for these reasons; many peple lose
their workplace, and it has increased the generation gap.
Firstly, people has lost lots of works
because of the rapid development. It is obvious that if the robot can replace
humans, employers will tend to use it rather than giving lots of money to their
workers. For example, when the Industrial Revolution began, many workers lose
their job because machines could work much more effectively. So, many people
had to find new work or do very hard labor. Also, these days, many people say
that 4th Industrial Revolution will occur. According to the research
conducted by the California University in 2017, more than 40% of the job will
disappear soon because of the rapid development while only 5% of the new job
will appear. This means that rapid development can eliminate one’s livelihood.
Secondly, rapid development has increased
the generation gap. It is an undeniable fact that these days, as newer and
newer technology comes out everyday, it is hard for elderly to follow the trend.
This can make elderly feel isolated from the society, and only younger
generation can use the technology fully. For example, my grandmother, who is
now 71 years old always feel complexed when she use her smartphone. She always
talks that almost every young generations can use it, but it is too hard for
her. It makes her feel like she is turned over the society. This means that
rapid development has put some distance between younger generation and older
generation.
I strongly believe that rapid development
has negatively affected society for the reasons I mentioned above. When we desire the rapid
development, we should keep in mind that it has many bad aspects.
