Some people think that it is better to specialize in one specific subject than to have broad knowledge of many academic subjects. Both sides may have their own reasons to support their views. If I had to choose one, I would say that having a wide knowledge of diverse academic subjects is much better than specializing in one specific subject. There are several reasons and examples as follows.
First of all, people can develop their creativity through different kinds of academic subjects. In modern society, creativity is a crucial qualification since many companies require it. Also, due to the fact that we live in the information and technology age, the significance of creative thinking is getting important than in the past. For example, Apple has many requirements for their applicants. One of the most key qualifications is creativity. For this reason, their first step to hiring people is determining applicants’ creativity by some methods such as identifying his or her point of view on various types of topics, issues or even academic subjects. This clearly shows that broad knowledge of lots of academic subjects is needed for people in today’s society. Also, people can think in a broader view by having various kinds of academic knowledge. If we seek to focus on one specific subject, our way of thinking could be limited. However, broad knowledge of many academic subjects allows us to think in a broader perspective. For instance, when I have to make an important decision, I always call my father for his advice since he has a wide perspective. He always tries to get various kinds of information and knowledge from diverse fields by reading numerous articles and magazines. With broad knowledge of many academic subjects, he has wisdom for a better life. In conclusion, with broad knowledge of many academic subjects, people can not only improve their creativity, but also think in a broader perspective. In this regard, I agree with the statement that having broad knowledge of many academic subjects is better than specializing in one specific subject. | | | | | | | |
