▶ Your Answer :
The reading and the lecture both talk about
declining populations of frogs. The reading suggests that there are several
solutions to prevent the population of frogs from decreasing. However, the
lecturer said that the solutions mentioned in the reading passage are not
convincing and there are problems in the suggested solutions.
First, the reading maintains that farmers’
using harmful pesticides should be legitimately prohibited because the
pesticides are harmful to frogs, resulting in a decline of their population.
However, the lecturer says that this solution is not economically fair and
practical, adding that once the pesticides used to lose farmers’ crops are not
allowed, farmers would be economically threatened.
Second, the reading asserts that antifungal
medication and treatments for frogs can be helpful for them to overcome a
danger of funguses that cause frogs’ dehydration. In contrast, the lecturer insists
that it is extremely difficult to apply the medication and treatments to
individual frogs. Also, it costs too much budget because the medications and
treatments should be applied to each generation again and again.
Third, the reading goes on to say that frog
populations decreases because of their threatened habitats, water and wetland.
Their water and wetland habitats are in danger due to human activities such as
excessive water use and the draining of wetlands. Although the lecturer this
solution can be helpful at some extents, it cannot deal with a real problem.
She says that a cause of decreasing water and wetland habitats is a global
warming and the solution mentioned in the reading passage doesn’t work for the
global warming.
