Some people might think that students should be exposed to
teachers' opinion on social and political issues in class. However, in my
opinion, it's better off for students not being to
not be exposed to teachers' opinion on social and political issues in
class. The rationale behind this is that students are easily affected by
teachers and that we can't exclude the possibility of intervention of the
outside power.
To begin with, teachers
can have a significant impact on students' thoughts. Students
are immature persons who don't have the ability to
build their independent and complete perspectives on the
society issues yet. This is because they haven't gone through many
experiences when compared to adults who have had many more opportunities to
encounter diverse experiences. In addition, students spend most of
their time listening to teachers' lectures in school.
Therefore, there is a high possibiliy possibility
for students of following teachers' perspectives on social
and political issues. This may cause severe problems
for students because they can't make their opinions on the issues on their
own if they follows teachers' opinion completely. For
example, when I was in middle school, my
history teacher used to expose his personal opinions on the government's
policies. Since I was young and inexperienced, I thought what he's he was saying was the complete
and absolute fact. However, I watched a news dealing with the issues the
teacher had talked about and found out his
opinions were narrowed and exaggerated.
On top of that, the external
power can make use of this to benefit themselves. The
external power here includes the government
and businesses. The privileged and governors may make
teachers' to inject opinions on social and political
issues into students to achieve their goals. The representative
example for this case is the education going on in North Korea. The Kim dynasty intervenes deeply in the teaching
process in schools to justify their despotic and violent government. Teachers
are made to impart information advocating their government, and students are
naturally exposed to the narrow and wrong perspectives towards the social and
political issues.
To sum up, I firmly believe that students
should not be exposed to teacher's opinion on social and political issues.
Students are too young not to being affected by teachers opinions and the outward external power can make use of this to benefit
themselves. The importance of my rationale couldn't be underestimated for the
reasons I've mentioned above.
