▶ Your Answer :
Humans have always developed and enjoyed art and
music. Different civilizations, empires and countries had various styles and
methods to fulfill their desire for them. In current society, the argument
whether or not to include art and music as mandatory school subjects became a
controversial. Since school is a great place of education for children, it
seems obvious that art and music which were highly valued and developed by
humankind all the time should be mandatory.
First of all, art and music classes improve
creativeness and sensitivity of children. While subjects like history, math,
science and language improve their logical thinking and knowledge about world,
art and music let children to learn something different from them. In these
classes, children learn how to express their thoughts and feelings in creative
way. Not matter of special talents, children can operate their imagination to
sing, play instruments and create their own artworks. Moreover, they are
important for enhancing children to be more sensitive. Feeling beauty of
melodies, lyrics and art works makes their life far more interesting. Since
these skills are as crucial in all children when living, the subjects should be
requisite for them.
The second reason is that children can release their
stress and thus help them to do well in other subjects too. Most of the
subjects they learn in school contain great amount of new information and children
strive to get a good score by studying it intensely. If they only learn those
subjects, they would be too bored and tedious. However, by singing loudly with
their peers and working hard for completing their arts, they will be more
relaxed. By resting their brain and reducing their tension, they will be good
at other studies in school. Actually, Koreans in the past used music in order
to do their tiring work in joy. They made a song with exciting lyrics and
melodies to sing it while doing farm work. By music, they could be more
motivated and finish their work effectively. Even though the cases do not
correspond completely, it clearly shows that music and art will help children
to enjoy their otherwise stressful school life and make them relaxed during
their whole school life.
Including art and music in mandatory subjects is not a
choice but a requirement for schools. Not only for improving creativeness and
sensitivity of children, but also for their more enjoyable school life. Therefore,
nothing in my mind regarding the previous issue overweighs the idea stated
above.
