Opinions might be divided over whether people often
buy products not because they really need them but because other people have
them. People of diverse ages and from different walks of life may take diverse
positions on this controversial issue. Personally, I agree that people buy
products because other people have the same
products. When people get to know other people have products, they are eager to
buy same ones, because they think that the same ones will be needed someday.
To begin with, many people are likely to
unintentionally buy products that they don’t need. They know that the products aren’t
needed right now, but want to buy these products because they believe that
these will be needed later. Opponents of my perspective claim that due to
limited budget, people buy products because they really want it and there is
are no people who waste their money. Advocates’ claims may sound reasonable on the surface. However, if we take a
closer look at their contentions, the rationale for their assertion lacks logic
in many ways. Moreover, my personal (personal이라고 하셨는데, 자신의 친구의 경험을 예시로 사용하셨어요) example can debunk their claim. A
friend of mine, Jisu,
goes shopping every weekend. Every time she goes to department stores and buy bags and other stuff (stuff보단 things, products 란 단어들을 사용해 주세요) that are similar to others, she exactly knows that these are not needed
right now, but wants to buy these because she
might use the products later.
In addition, beyond my personal example, there are
many articles which can support my argument. They expressed doubts that are
similar to my point of view. A few weeks ago, I had a chance to read an article
from the Dong-A Daily News that is related to the topic. It described the
results of the survey conducted by the Samsung Economic Research Institute
social science researchers with more than
five hundred marketing managers working at large department stores in Seoul as respondents. According to the article, of the 500
managers surveyed more than 80 percent of them answered that people who come to
department stores are likely to buy products
that are really need to them are not really
needed without thinking of their budget, because the people think that
these products will be needed someday. The managers went on to say that
according to statistics, people have a tendency
to buy products because of jealousy, and they actually don’t need the products that they buy
impulsively.
As I
mentioned above, based on the examples, I can conclude that people often buy
products not because they really need it them
but because other people have them.
