While the author of the reading passage argues that there are some reasons that the Chevalier de Seingalt, a writer of a long memoir fabricated his memoir to make it more fun, the lecturer opposes the assertion with different views. First of all, the speaker states that it does not mean that he was the poor. In Switzerland, having party and gambling were needed to a lot of actual cash and this is why he loaned some cash from people until he convert money to cash. This casts doubt on the author's claim that critics argued that unlike in the memoir that he spend a number of money to enjoy party and gambling, he borrowed money from some merchant in Switzerland. In addition, the lecturer points out that the conversation with Voltaire is mistaken. Since the story that he had conversation with Voltaire was that he talked with him at night. Therefore, he would have written the story as much as he can remember. This goes against the writer's view that he could not been able to remember the contents of conversation with the famous writer Voltaire which was happened for a long time ago. Finally, the professor contends that other prisoners illustrated another stories. If the Chevalier had escaped the prison at that time, the jail would have had to be repaired. However, there was no record that the ceiling had been fixed in old document in the prison, in Venice. This contradicts that the idea presented in the reading the Chevalier would not been able to escape from the prison by himself, instead, many of his friends who have high positions were likely to help him escape from the jail.
