▶ Your Answer : Some people think that it is better to specialize in one
specific subject because they might understand the subject deeper than the
other. There are many opinions regarding this topic but it is evident that a
wide range of knowledge of many academic subjects enable people to have more
possibility to get attractive to others and also, help them get more job
opportunities. This must play an important role in their life. The concepts of
relationship and success clearly illustrate this theme.
First of all, a person who has lots of knowledge of many
subjects must be easier to intrigue others as he or she introduces a variety of
issues on different fields from those of others.
Once they begin to talk to each other, it is easier that
they become a friend than no communication with each other.
A really good example is a friend of mine, Gunwoo. Although
his major was linguistics, he had background knowledge of mathematics, physics
and astronomy. In a linguistics class, he presented evolution of natural
science following evolution of languages. As a result, his classmates got
interested in the story and tapped into him.
The situation would apply to most people who are a variety
of background knowledge of many subjects. Their knowledge would play a role as
a bridge to develop friendship.
Additionally, in statistical research on how many times
people will change their job in their whole life, people usually get five different
jobs during their whole life. If people are specialized only in one subject,
they must struggle in learning new job skills. On the other hand, people who have
diverse knowledge of many subjects relatively easily get used to the job. A
friend of mine, Wonwoo, has same experience. She was only interested in accounting.
When she moved her position of accounting to a secretary to the president, she
got stressed out because she was not skillful. Eventually, she quit her job and
still has been looking for a job. This experience is comparable to the
experiences of people who plan to move their job. They will have trouble in
getting accustomed to the new position as long as they have no background knowledge
of the subject that they would apply for.
To sum it all up, some people still insist that it is better
for people to specialize in one subject. However, through the examples related
to relationship and success, one can see that it is more valuable for people to
have broad knowledge of diverse academic subjects.
