Undoubtedly, the environment plays a significant
role in people’s daily lives. Some people might argue that companies which
causing harm to the environment should pay more taxes or pine, while others do
not. Both sides may have their own reasons to support their own ideas. If I were
asked to choose one, however, I would like to agree with those who thinks that
companies causing environmental problems should take their responsibility by
paying taxes or pine.
First, imposing taxes or fine to the companies
can prevent the climate change. If they were to pay more taxes, they would
attain an incentive to cut down on the use of fossil fuels used in their
factories. Those fossil fuels are known to have a critical impact on the
environment contributing to the acceleration of global warming, which is one of
the main causes of climate change. Therefore, imposing taxes or fine might help
decrease climate change or natural disasters. However, other policies might be
less effective, because companies were made to pursue profit, therefore they
might cooperate with it only if it is related to financial matter.
Second, the government can earn the money
to spend on enacting other policies regarding environmental problems. Taxes or
fine from companies can increase the revenue of the government. The government can
use that money in environmental policys, such as planting more trees,
facilitating public transportation, and investing on R&D to develop ecofriendly
energy sources. For example, few years ago, there was a large-scale tree
planting event in Namyangju city in South Korea. That event was able to be
implemented because the city government impose taxes to the local factories
which were blamed for water pollution.
All in all, I strongly assert that companies
causing environmental problems should pay more taxes or fine for the reasons I
have given above. |
