▶ Your Answer :
There has been argument regarding
the issue of whether people should get information from various news sources so
as to stay well-informed or not. Some people maintain that they should not get
information from various sources. From my perspective, however, people should
get information from various news sources to stay well-informed.
In this essay, I will present two
reasons for supporting my idea; first is that people can be biased if they
accept information from one news source, and second is that there are sources
specialized in certain category which can help people better.
Firstly, people can be biased if
they accept information from one news source. For instance, there are two kinds
of newspapers, one is the conservative and the other is liberal. Even if they
include same incident, they have different point of view. Thus, it is good for
us to get information from both, not to be biased. According to research about
one’s philosophy, the result showed that people who were extreme conservatives
or liberalists all read only one kind of news and believed all of the
information thoughtlessly.
Secondly, there are some news
that are specialized in specific category, such as the Economist. It is true
that we get economic information from other newspaper, however, we can get
deeper materials from particular sources. According to a survey conducted in
Yonsei University, more than 78% of people subscribed a professional news.
Those who subscribed contended that those sources give much more information
than general news. They mentioned that having lots of sources made them have a
great store of knowledge about the economy, society, and many other things.
To sum up, people should get
information from various news sources in order to stay well-informed, or only
accept one source. In this regard, I strongly feel that it is better to accept
information from various news sources.
