Some people think that Television and movies have some positive effects on children. However, in my opinion, Television and movies have more negative effects than positive effects on children’s behavior. One reason is that they can lead to dangerous and risky behavoirs of our kid, and another reason is that they can prevent from development of children’s ability to think.
To begin with, TV and movies cause dangerous and risky behaviors of children. This is because children often can not differentiate reality and fantasy on TV and movies, and they still have an instinct that they copy and imitate adults’ behaviors. I would like take a personal experience of my youngest brother to make my point. He is 8 years old and still loves to watch super hero movies very much. Last year, after watching a move ‘Ironman’, he imitated Ironman’s flying so jumped down from the roof. As a result, he broke his leg and suffered from bone fractures for a couple of months.
On top of that, TV and movies prevent from improvement of creativity and imagination of our kids. This is because, they deliver images and imformation one-sidely and children watching them only receive the images and imformation produced by them passively. This means that they take away thinking opportunities and abilities from our children. According to a recent study conducted by the Korean Department of Education, childrens watching TV more than 4 hours a day showed poor performances in an imaginative ability test. In addition, the same study reported that those children surveyed showed lack of creative ability in an specific test. This showed that watching TV and movies can cause seriously negative effects on our children’s ability to think.
In this regard, I believe that TV and movies affect our children negatively for the reasons I mentioned above. I think my youngest brothers personal experience and the survey conducted by the government are enough to prove TV and movie’s negative effects on children’s behaviors. |
