Some
people believe that it is more important for university to spend money on facilities
than hiring good teachers. However, in my opinion, the university’s faculty is
more mandatory than its facilities. This is because originally, universities
are made for studying and researching. They should spend their money on them,
and I think that hiring good professors is the one of them.
To
begin with, the most important thing for university is its abilities for studying
and researching. In fact, the university is not a place for getting a job, but
it is traditionally a place for chasing the truth and learning about it. But these
days, many of the university students misunderstand the university as a step
for taking a job, so its main purpose is fading away now. Obviously, if university’s
facilities are really bad or broken for people not to be able to use, then it
should be changed. But if it is not that much, then the university just uses
money to increase its quality, and it is hiring good teachers, and good
professors. Also, their researches and studies are the one that makes the
university’s rank. Revising some facilities is just temporary, and we should
see long period, and then we figure out the crucial thing is making the best
faculty.
Let
me give an example of it. There was a survey which was conducted by the Korea
Research Center. The survey asked high school students that; Which university
do you want to enter? The university ranking based on the students’ respondents
was 85 % similar to the ranking of this year’s accomplishments of universities
which was examined by the same company. It is not related to how many classrooms
the university has or how their facilities are good. This implies that even the
high school students knew the important thing is the university’s ability.
To
sum up, even if the university has good appearance and good facility, it is just
peelings. We should focus on the inside and main quality of the university. In
this regard, I believe that it is more important for university to spend their
money on hiring good teachers.
