▶ Your Answer :
Undoubtedly, time management plays a significant role in children’s lives in many of places where they study or play. Some people think that children should spend most of their time studying or playing and thus they should not be required to help their family with household chores, such as cleaning and cooking, while others do not believe this way. If I were asked to choose one, I would say that children should not only do household chores but also studying or playing. There are several reasons as follows.
To begin with, when children help their parents with household chores, it helps them to improve a sense of responsibility. It requires them to be diligent, passionate, and self-disciplined. When they have these personal traits, it is likely to bring a better result in school. For example, Tokyo University found a big difference between two groups of young adults in academic performance. One group consisted of those who washed dishes and did laundry after studying once a week, and the other group was made up of those who played and studied. The researcher found that the former was more likely to have a higher score on the SAT than the latter. In particular, most of the first group showed a longer attention span, a stronger passion in his tasks, a better ability to delay their gratification. (State the evidence) On the other hand, many of the second group tended to be get distracted easily, procrastinate, and act on impulse. This implies that helping family is the key to success academically as well as professionally. Without helping housework, one would be irresponsible.
In addition, by helping family with household chores, they can cultivate the quality needed for success. It requires them to manage their time, abide by the rules, and respect others they live with. When such obligations are fulfilled, it is likely to put in more effort in school. For example, my brother was lazy and selfish. However, he changed little by little after he started to help grandmother at home. Since my grandmother did laundry, cooked, and cleaned rooms because all my family members were too busy. (Wrong sentence) He decided to help her after his study because grandmother looked exhausted. After all, he began to vacuum all rooms every Sunday and he was able to use his time effectively by making the plan to study and do household tasks.
All in all, the advantages of helping house chores and thus studying or playing far outweigh those of studying or playing. All things considered, I strongly believe that children should do household chores after study.
