▶ Your Answer : Some people take it for granted that the university make volunteer works as being mandatory for students. However, from my personal opinion, I strongly believe that It is useless since forced volunteer works will not helpful to raise students’ morality at all and students should take higher priority on their study not volunteer works.
First of all, It is crucial for students to learn not only practical and useful knowledges but also building up a right perspective and ethics. When a university have a mind to make volunteer work as a course they might expect student to be a person who is willing to land their hand to others who are in trouble. However, universities’ effort to raising students’ mortality could be came to nothing if they forced them to do volunteer works regardless of their willingness. To illustrate my point better, take myself as an example, when I was in hight school we should achieve specific time when it comes to volunteering. Otherwise, we could not gain a good grade in ethic class. I was not interested in helping others whereas it was mandatory so I decided to do volunteer work at the local community center. In there, a manager asked me to do laundry for the disabled. It was not rewarding at all and made me exhausted. At last, I became a person who is more reluctant to do volunteer works for nothing. If I had been abled to participate volunteer work with my free will, I could have enjoyed and had good impression about volunteering.
Moreover, the university must encourage Students to focus on their study not subsidiary activities. This is because volunteer activities tend to take up a lot of time so it ended up having negative effect on their grades. Suppose that students have to both maintain great grade and fill up a great deal of volunteering time. Is it possible for them to keep their good grade? The answer will be “no”. It is absurd to killing two birds with one stone. Take one of my friends as an example, the university that my friend is attending requires students to specific volunteering time. She was doing the dual degree program so she had always her hands full with assignments. Inevitably, She stayed up everyday to finish up her major assignments and on the weekend she went the Kindergarten children to do the volunteer work. In the long run, she got sick on account for overworking and had to stayed in the hospital for two weeks. If she had taken a rest and had time to refresh her self at least on the weekend she would have been healthy as always.
All things considered, I would say It is not a good idea that universities made volunteering as an obligation. This is because forced volunteer works not motivate students at all and they already have a plenty of assignments to deal with.
