There are various ways to enhance health,
and some people believe that getting enough sleep and having a positive
attitude is good ways to become healthier. There is no doubt that such ways help
people avoid being stressed. However, I believe the best way to get healthier
is to exercise regularly because people can improve both physical and mental
health by working out regularly. In the following paragraphs, I will explain
why I think this way in detail.
To begin with, regualar exercise helps
people enhance physical health. For people, it is very important to have strong
immune systems because robust immune systems make people be less susceptible to
illnesses, such as cold and pneumonia, which are caused by viruses and
bacteria. Therefore, it is vital for people to strengthen their immune systems.
Considering this, people can benefit from regular exercise a lot. This is due
to the fact that regular exercise stimulates people’s immune cells to fight
more actively against viruses and bacteria, so people can have stronger immune
systems. A study conducted by Tokyo University shows this is true. Researchers
performed the study with people of similar health status. Half of the people
were requried to work out regularly. On the other hand, the other half were not.
After a year, researchers measured all the people’s immunity levels. The result
was that, in general, the people who exercised regularly had more active immune
cells and higher immunity levels. This demonstrates that regular exercise can
help people boost their physical health.
On top of that, regular exercise enables
people to keep mental health. Today’s people have various duties to do, such as
work, study, and keep personal relationships with others, so it is quite common
for them to suffer from stress. Because even low-level stress can disturb
concentration and cause serious mental illnesses, such as depression and
insomnia, it is essential for them to manage stress properly. Considering this,
regular exercise is beneficial to people. This is attributed to the fact that
when people work out, special hormone which makes them feel better is exuded.
Therefore, people can relieve stress and prevent from coming down with mental
illnesses. My personal experience can be a good example. I recently studied for
my final exam. Even the times when I was not actually studying, I was under
severe mental pressure. As a result, I felt depressed and was not able to focus
on what I had to do. One day, I decided to take a study break and played tennis
with my best friend who was a doctor. While I was playing tennis, I could
forget about the exam and lost myself in the game without suffering from
stress. After the game, I became feel better and did not feel depressed any
more. My friend explained me this was because of changes in hormone. If I had
not exercised, I could not have maintained mental health.
To sum up, regular exercise makes it
possible for people to enhance both physical and mental health, whereas the
other ways can only enhance mental health. In this regard, I firmly believe
that regular exercise is the best way to become healthier.
