There is some discrepancy over whether how much parents should spend their time helping to decide the future of their children. Some people suggest that the parents should spend a lot of time to lead their children. However, I firmly believe that they should decrease the time investing in their children. The reasons are as follow. To begin with, the children should be independent before they become adult. If the parents put too much emphasis on directing their children, the children can not develop a sense of independence and maturity. Also, they are not be able to do self-directed decision because of the parent's influence. After they even graduate the high school, they can not help finding their parent's help to solve their own problems. This dependence on their parents is also related to their happiness. A study was conducted by Seoul National Psychology Center to determine whether parents' too much interest in their children have an effect on the children's formation of character. There were 2 groups researched. The first group was formed of children who have decided their problems by themselves. On the other hand, the latter group consisted of children who always have leaned to their parents. 5 years later, all of respondents became the adult. According to this research, the former group was more independent. What an interesting is that, they also seemed to be happier than the latter group. This is because they decided their future according to what they want. In addition, the children are aware of their favorite more precisely than their parents. If their parents decide their children's direction, the children may regret their passive attitude in the future. When people determine their future, the most important thing is considering one's aptitude. However, the parents can not know about their children's personality exactly. My friend had an experience related to this point. During his high school years, his parents always intervened in all of his decisions. His original dream was becoming a good soccer player. Thus, everytime he have a free time, he practiced several soccer skills and develop his physical ability. However, his father wanted to make his son become a famous lawyer. In conclusion, he entered in famous university related to the law. But, whenever I met him, he really wanted to change his major and also he could not concentrate on schoolwork. To sum up, the parents should give their children free of choice. This is because the children should cultivate their sense of independence and only they know about their real aptitude. |
