▶ Your Answer :
Some people might say that teacher's
opinions on social and political issues should teach their students in class
while others do not think this way. If I had to choose one among the two above,
I would say that it is much better that teachers should not deal with social
and political issues in their class. There are a couple of reasons and example
as follows.
To
begin with, students don't have completely formed mentality. Students would
have biased political hues provided that their teacher taught their thinking about political and social issues. This is supported by a survey that was
conducted by Kim&Zhang in Korea. The purpose of the study is to determine
whether other's thinking could affect student's one. There were two group
monitored. The first group was formed of students who were in the environment that
they were exposed to other's views very easily. The other group consisted of students who didn't
listen to others well. The researchers tracked them over a 10 year period. They
compared and recorded that the majority of the former group had strong
political color, while the latter group relatively had objective way of
thinking. The survey proves that teacher's opinions are very important factor to
form their student's thinking.
On
top of that, students will be exposed to the wrong information very easily.
Also, they will lose judging ability on their own. I will talk about personal
experience to illustrate my opinion. I remembered when I was a university
student and one of my professors had very biased against particular political
party. Thus, he offered many bad information about the party in his class, even
though included misinformation. Consequently, some of students soon started to
view the party in a negative way. However, one day I saw a newspaper about this
party performing many good deeds in various fields and I no longer felt I could
trust other's judgment. Reflecting on my case, teacher's opinions have great
effect on forming student's way of thinking.
To
sum up, it is very dangerous that teacher inform their personal views about
political and social issues to their students. For these reasons, I strongly
agree with the given statement. |
