Some people think that there is no need for government's assistance because people can deal with problems on their own. However, I disagree with them for two reasons concerning the fact that there are people who are in need in reality and disputes between people that can not be solved by themselves.
To begin with, in the rapidly changing society, there are people who can't follow up on the change. Especially in the countries of capitalism, there are always people who are left behind eventually which we call the 'lowest social stratum'. In a sense, it is true that people have to overcome their problems by themselves. However, we have to admit that the reason for one's poverty and wealth is not always due to his or her amount of effort. Instead, there are many cases of becoming rich or poor just because of their parents. Thus there is a responsibility for the government to engage for destitute people. A study conducted by the National Statistical Office showed that the increase of welfare lead to the decrease of suicide rate. It is evident that there are people who desperately require help.
On top of that, on the occasions of troubles between people, there is a need for impartial judgment. As one might already know, the judicary is under government's control. The authority of judiciary is appointed by its citizens. This is because people need a third party for their settlement. Suppose there is no law in the country. It is evident that the whole country will turn into chaos with crimes prevalent everywhere. In fact, it is well known that in the regions where riots occur, all of the goods in all kinds of stores are stolen. This is because rioters know that they are not prone to the punishment of the law in those large scale riots.
To sum up, the government's intervention is critical due to the poor strata that is caused by the capitalism and the disputes between people, In light of these, I disagree with the idea that the government assistence is not necessary.
