▶ Your Answer :
Some people might say that people should
focus on one specific area of study. However, in my opinion, there should be
more emphasis on a wide array of knowledge instead of in-depth knowledge for
the following two subsequent reasons.
To
begin with, it is helpful to raise reputation if I have diverse knowledge. To be
specific, it is required for people to have a wide variety of knowledge rather
than deep knowledge of one specific field. A person with sufficient knowledge
is regarded as ‘a person of intellect’ in this world, while others who lack
knowledge are simply ignored. For example, I will take Kim Sungkyeng as an
example. She is an actress in Korea and studied history, music, politics, and
economics. At the beginning of her career, she had a hard time to introduce
herself to the public. However, as she showed up a wide range of TV show with
varying topics, such as economy, international politics, or education, people
started to know her. She knew a lot of knowledge in any fields and talked about
many issues, so program directors automatically casted her to their shows. Ultimately,
she was considered as a smart and successful career woman.
On
top of that, in-depth knowledge is extremely hard to utilize. Imagine that
people have deep knowledge of only one field and face circumstances with
difficulty. It is highly doubtful that they can find solutions and apply them.
The only key to deal with problems would be to possess knowledge of wide areas.
For example, there was a poll conducted by the Korean Employment Association in
2011 with CEOs as respondents. The purpose of the survey was to understand the
consensus about what kind of applicants they want to hire. The majority of respondents
think that people having extensive knowledge is the most valuable applicant. The
main reason was that they have to hire people with a broad range of knowledge
in case the company have trouble. Also, the employers said that they can find
ways to cope with any problems by applying their wide knowledge to the problems.
This survey proves that people have a positive view of having a wide range of
knowledge.
To
sum up, taking lift recognition positively and applying to something bad into
consideration, I can assuredly say that people ought to have diverse knowledge
rather than deep knowledge of one specific field.
