▶ Your Answer :
The
reading and the listening are both about genetically modified trees. The
reading part insists that these trees have several benefits. However, the
lecturer challenges the reading part's opinion. She believes that genetically
modified trees have fatal drawbacks.
First of all, the author of the article
mentions that genetically modified trees are strong and easier to survived than
the natural trees. The lecturer casts doubts on it. She says that the natural
trees have all different genes, so even if the harsh environment (for example,
climate changing, insects attacking etc.) come to them, some of them will
survive and succeed to keep their species. However, the modified trees will be
in danger in that situation and cannot survive, because they all just have the
same uniformed genes.
Secondly, the writer also states that the
farmers will get a lot of profits from the genetically modified trees because
they grow fast and produce many fruits. In contrast, the lecturer points out
the hidden money that the farmers need to pay for the company. First, those
modified tree's seeds are quite expensive. Second, the farmers need to pay the
money for the seeds company when they plant those trees.
Finally, it is also mentioned that the
modified trees will prevent the over-exploitation and protect the native trees.
This is because the fast growing of the trees will make people do not need to
cut the native trees. The lecture, however, thinks that those modified trees
will give bad effects to the native trees. That is because the modified trees
grow very aggressively, and absorb all the essential sources competitively.
Therefore, it will make the natural trees cannot survive. |
