▶ Your Answer :
According to the
passage, there are three hypotheses how mima mounds created. However, the
speaker from the lecture disagreed the statement for the following reasons.
First of all,
the reading passage asserts that the mima mounds are formed by the activity of
plants. Plants capture soil and prevent erosion. So, overtime, they form mima
mounds. On the contrary, the professor disputes this statement by showing the
class some pictures of mima mounds with no plants, and other mima mounds have
only short grasses.
Another point
made in the reading is that seismic activity created the mima mounds. Studies of
earthquake show that earthquakes can cause loose soil to be arranged into
piles. The professor totally disagrees with this statement by pointing out that
there are many places which get no earthquakes yet have mima mounds. Also, the
other places which have many earthquakes recently do not have any new
earthquakes.
The reading
passage also shows that grophers are responsible for making the mima mounds. But
the professor tells that on average, the grophers could create mima mounds
because they are very enormous and made of the large stones. As a result, they
takes thousand of years. Thus, the professor believes it would be impossible
for grophers to make them.
