It is of great worth to discuss whether or not
nowadays teaching children is more difficult than in the past due to the cell
phone, online games, and social networking Web site. While some people might
agree with the statement, others might disagree with it. As far as I am
concerned, I disagree with the notion that those things make it difficult to
educate children compared to the past for the following reasons.
First of all, those things play an important
role in children’s perspective. This is mainly because children can be readily
exposed to different ideas and thoughts that
they have never known before while interacting and socializing with friends who
have different major, interests, and talents. This aspect is encouraged by
calling friends, playing online games, and posting on social networking Web
site. Consequently, children can take a quantum leap in intellectual growth.
For example, my brother used to be very negligent and lost interest in his
studies. However, since he started to communicate and play computer games with
friends, he has changed little by little. He has become more mature and
self-disciplined. The reasons was that my brother felt a sense of
confidence by utilizing those things. On top of that, he began to spend more
time studying, to follow instruction well, and to submit assignments on time in
school. If he had not done those kind of things, he would still be
irresponsible in all aspect, especially in his studies.
Moreover, those things promotes children to
participate more enthusiastically. The fundamental reason is that those things
causes healthy competition among children. This aspect can be an effective
facilitator which motivates children to improve on studying. They will make
more effort, concentrate more, and feel more responsible for what they do. Therefore,
this brings about better outcomes of them. A few weeks ago, I had a chance to
read op-ed piece that was related to the topic. It described the result of a
survey conducted by Seoul National University in 2015. In the survey, 43
percent of children who enjoy posting social network pages such as Facebook
spent more hours studying by 30 percent and performed better. This was
particularly because children compared themselves to others, so that they felt
positive tension which encourage themselves to study hard.
To sum up, those things
help children in terms of improving children’s perspective and motivating
children. For these reasons, I disagree with the notion that it is a not
difficult task to educate children because of those things in comparison with
the past.
