These days many school wants to change their class room from a traditional large class into a compact one. This tendency does not merely happened. In fact, it is an academic tend which has based on scientific facts and experiences which have gained from a long period of time.
First of all, more communication could be made in a small class room which gives positive effects on students development, eventually. As the size of a class become smaller, the more communication could be made in the class room, because each of student has higher chance to raise their voice toward the topic compared to the traditional largely packed class. I believe that student could enhance their academic knowledge by sharing their opinion with others and getting useful feedbacks from the instructors. In this sense, small class is good way to facilitate the efficiency of learning. For example, I have experienced the small class in high school year: only eight students in a class. At first, I felt pressured because every classmates were aware of each other. This made me to be more shy and reluctant to share my opinion. However, I have figured out that my classmates are actually very supportive to my opinion and we could improve our academic knowledge by giving useful feedbacks to others. Unlike a large class where a student does not have any presence in the room, I could easily be brave about my thinking. As a result, I felt a great confidence about the topic recognizing the usefulness of the small class. Second, teacher or professor could give direct help and assist personal development for each of the student. There is the limited time given to the instructors. Therefore, it is impossible for them to pay enough attention to every single student in the room, under the large class system. However, in a small class, it is possible to pay sufficient time for them which turned out to be beneficial for learners. According to the research conducted by Association of Child Development Committee, the members figured out that smaller class is 57% more effective than a larger class, since the students could get a personal feedbacks from their tutors. The researchers also implies that personal attention is the essential part in child development, as well as that of adults. As I mentioned that there are more room for direct feedback to the individual in smaller class, the advantages of the method are proven.
For these reasons, I firmly believed that the students could learn better in the smaller class, in the sense of communication and personal attention. Although several drawbacks this way of learning has, it is worth pursue. |
