▶ Your Answer :
No society is perfect.
Despite the long journey that numerous nations in history went through,
searching for the ideal type of government, every form of ideology has its own
weakness. Democracy, the most widely spread rule in the world, has many
deficits and in this sense, I strongly disagree to the statement that the
government does not need to help its people. In fact, there are a bunch of
people in the society that cries for help.
First of all, poor people
desperately need help from the government. The dark side of democracy has
created a dog-eat-dog world, a world with excessive competition, ruled by
mammonism. These days, they say "money creates money", which leaves
out the people who are not wealthy. If the government does not give a hand to
the poor, the discrepancies between the two groups will grow further. For
example, I did volunteer work when I was a university student, and I back then
I met people who were suffering from poverty. Surviving everyday was a burden for
them because they had to worry about the most basic needs; what to eat, where
to stay and what to wear. This broke my heart and I was strongly disappointed to
the government and the nation. They needed help desperately, and volunteer
activities and charity from students was were just not enough.
Secondly, the disabled people lack the ability
because they are minorities. The society is consisted consists of abled and
disabled people, and obviously the former is the majority. Therefore, many
infrastructures and facilities are built in the favor of the physically
capable. The government needs to listen to what the disabled people say because
the problems that they face are best solved by a massive and financially
capable group; the government. For instance, facilities such as elevator for
wheelchairs and vocal signs in public transportations should be installed by
the government because they are too expensive for civic groups or corporates to
build.
To summarize, the government has an important
responsibility to every human being included in the society, definitely
including the poor and disabled. No one deserves to be left out, and the
government assistant should obviously assist those who gain less from its
governance. |
