These
days, some people take it for granted that government should not provide any
financial helps to artists. However, contrary to this idea, I strongly believe
that artists should be received financial support for their developments. The
rationale behind this is that financial support helps to maintain their mental
health and to broaden their outlook on life.
First
of all, supporting finance to artists helps to live a healthy life. An
important reason is that, by receiving financial support from governments, they
can be easily and quickly escape from the boring and harsh everyday life
because they tend to work for earning money regardless of their job at the same
time. This can stress them out. What is worse, stress is the primary factors of
illnesses through weakening the immune system. Thus, they are more likely to be
mentally and physically weak when doing work-unrelated works. According to the
research of Chung-ang University of Korea in 2011, two artists showed a
difference in getting stress. One musician A combined recital with restaurant
manager twice a week. Another musician B worked in a chamber orchestra for only
musical growth. This caused a big difference in a musical level and the rate of
getting stress. Compared to musician B, musician A not only enhanced musical
skills, but also decreased the rate of getting stress.
The
second reason is that supporting financial aid to artists plays an important
role in broadening people’s perspective. This is mainly because providing
financial support to artists can expose them to wider musical jobs and
activities. Because they need an extra money for a work of art besides living
expenses, it is hard to work as an artist without financial parts. By supporting
financial aid to them, they can interact and socialize with people who have
same majors, interests, and talents. Consequently, they can take a quantum leap
in musical growth and accept diversity important in an era of globalization.
From my experience, when I was a freshman, I was majored in violin and, I
worked at French restaurant as a part-time job, and a violinist at the same time because I didn’t
receive any financial support. At that time, I was not a good violin player
since I did not concentrate a music practice for my musical developments.
However, from a sophomore, I got financial aids as a scholarship student, and
quit restaurant job from that time. As a result, I could concentrate on my
music, and met various musicians who have great musical skills and positions.
Through them, I could learn about a wide variety musical cultures such as
history, theory and attitude of mind as a musician. Were it not for meeting
them, I would have a narrow musical views and a lack of understanding of
society.
In
conclusion, without any doubt, I firmly believe that governments should provide
financial support to artists for their developments. The reason is that they enable
them to keep healthy and to obtain wider perspective of the world.
