The
lecturer asserts that many theories on the transient lunar phenomena, or as
known as TLP, do not explain why it happens. This counters the reading passage’s
claim that there are a number of plausible hypotheses to explain the cause of
the phenomena.
First,
in response to the reading passage, the lecturer says that it is a coincidence
that the TLPs happen in vicinity of the craters. Also, the speaker mentions
that the gas emitted from the craters are too small and the small gases can’t
be observed from the Earth. This directly contradicts the claim that the clouds
of lunar gas, in vicinity of the craters, are causing the phenomena mentioned
in the reading passage.
Second,
the lecturer contests the reading passage’s assertion by saying that the dust should
be very large to be observed. The speaker explains that in fact, the dust are
very little. He also mentions that the astronaut who walked on the Moon reported
that fine dust particles. This explanation refutes the reading passage’s claim
that dust floating above the ground is the cause of the TLPs.
Finally
the lecturer refutes the reading by saying that there is no correlation between
the solar radiation and the TLPs. He explains that they are sometimes matched,
but they are often not matched. He says that this correlation theory was once
prevalent, but there is no data to support this theory. This goes against the
reading passage’s assertion that solar radiation is the reason for the TLPs
