▶ Your Answer : Some people might say that it is better for students to find something to read themselves. However, in my opinion, they would get more benefits if their teachers chose lists to see and made them read for the following reasons concerning the fact that this method enables students to be exposed to the most important materials with valid priority and prevents them from being slacken. To begin with, a list to do read made by teachers has more effective for students because they know what materials are imperative and less important for students. Therefore, the list would made by reliable priority. As a result, if students followed the list, they would be exposed to most important readings, and spend their time studying the materials more efficiently. In contrast, if students select some readings by their own standard and judgement, essential readings would be missed from the list or they might read some irrelevant things from their studying. For example, when I studied clinical psychology in a college, I had to read some materials related with depression, and write report. I found several readings which seemed useful for me. However, as I read that, I realized they were not relevant with report theme and be hardly helpful for me. Actually, the books were not about depression, rather was relevant to bipolar disorder. Finally, I asked my professor for help, and he gave me a list of readings about depression. As a result, I completed my report successfully, and could get a good grade on the report. On top of that, giving students chances to select which they read would make them be lazy and slacken. This is because they would be easier to delay to choose the list to read, and see them actually in the situation. As a result, the effort to choose reading lists and read them might be finished only for a short period. In this matter, teachers enables them to struggle to do so by giving them several materials and enforcing them to follow the teacher’s direction. For instance, when I was a graduate student, I had a lot of motivation to search reading materials and see them regularly by myself at first. However, as the time went by, I became more lazy and could not read them periodically. As a result, my professor gave me the list what I should read and huge pressure for me to follow her instruction. I could not help but study the materials. However, thanks to her order, I was able to get a lot of information about my major, and they would be of big help for my graduation thesis. To sum up, if teachers assigned a list to do read for students, they would study along with the priority from the most important thing, and it would be more efficient for them. Furthermore, in the situation, they could be regulated by teachers not to be lazy or slacken. As a result, they would study regularly and it would be helpful for their intellectual development. In this regard, I firmly believe that it is better for students to be given the list to read from their teachers. |
