Some people think that it is more
beneficial for young people to choose a different job from their parents than
to select a same job which their parents have. However, in my opinion, choosing
a job in the same field of their parents is better for young people. There are
two reasons for this.
To begin with, people who work in the same
field of their parents are likely to succeed faster. This is because they could
learn know-how of work from their parents and use personal connections
that parents have already made. For example, there was a poll conducted by Korean
Business Center with young businessman as respondents. The purpose of the
survey was to understand the consensus view about the fact that careers
inherited from parents could affect success. The majority of respondents responded
that a job in the same field of their parents had many advantages because young
people who have the same field job of their parents could easily get a lot of
informantion of their work and they do not have to make new personal connections.
On top of that, getting and maintaining a
different job of parents is so difficult and it takes too much time to be
stable. The reason is that they should run their business from the beginning,
they have to find experts, ask many things when they are needed and search a
large amount of information concerning their job. For instance, I will talk
about my uncle as an example. When he was in his twenties, he decided to start
a new business, the Internet book store, which is in a different field of
his parents’ job. At first, he did not know how to make the store in the
Internet and manage that. Moreover, it took too much time by finding materials
of operating the book store and finding an expert of that field. He said that
now he earned a lot of money but obtaining a different job by himself was so
hard and sometimes he wanted to give up.
To sum up, getting a job in a same field of
their parents encourages young people to succeed and running a business by
onself is very hard. In this regard, I firmly believe that young people choose
a job in the same field their parents have.
