▶ Your Answer :
The reading passage and lecture are
about whether Genetic Modified foods are beneficial or not to human being. In
the reading passage, there is ample support for the author’s claim that GM
foods are helpful in many ways. However, the professor in the lecture gives
several reasons as a rebuttal to the author’s point.
First of all, the lecturer contends
that the merits of GM crops are exaggerated to solve the starvation problems.
She asserts that there exists a lot of food already but they are not scattered
properly in the world. Thus, destitute people in need cannot have access to the
food. This casts doubt on the reading passage’s claim that hunger issues can be
resolved by GM food.
On top of that, the professor insists
that GM food cannot lower the price of food, but it rather increases the costs
of food which consumers can buy. It takes a lot of money to change genes of crops.
Besides, GM crops require more moisture. Therefore, GM food precipitates more expensive
price in the market in turn. Her argument goes against the one made in the
reading passage, which asserts that GM food can help make the price of food
down by providing resilient characteristic.
Finally, the lecturer argues that
vaccines are made used of as much as in the past. Cool environment is still
necessary for vaccines not to rot. However, the cool environment such as stores
is not equipped well in poor countries even if the new intriguing vaccines are
introduced. This refutes the reading passage’s suggestion that the vaccines can
spread wider than earlier ones.
