▶ Your Answer : Some argue that telling the truth is the
most important factor to keep the good relationship. However, I believe in some
cases, telling white lies is necessary and showing compassion is the most important
consideration in the relationship.
To begin with, the truth can be hurting.
Sometimes, people find it difficult to accept the truth, and especially if
nothing can be done to improve the reality, it might be better for their mental
and physical health not to know the truth. I have personal experience that I
did not enjoy hearing the truth from my friend, which influenced our friendship
in the negative way. One day I wore a new dress I bought, and asked my friend
how it was. She told me honestly that she did not like it and it didn’t suit me
well. She added that maybe the problem was not the dress but my appearance and
suggested getting a plastic surgery. She might have been trying to be honest
with me as a true friend, wishing the best for me. However, I was shocked and
sad to hear the truth. Even though I knew that her intention was not to hurt my
feelings, I was unhappy about her remarks and our friendship was not the same
as before. Admittedly, telling the truth can be crucial factor in the
relationship, but one should carefully consider if it is the right situation to
do so.
In addition, I think showing compassions is
more important in the relationship than telling the truth. Often people feel
comforts when their friends or families agree with them and show compassions. What
human beings need when they are in trouble is compassions, and not hearing the
truth or advice from others. According to the survey conducted by the Kakao,
about 70 per cent of respondents preferred to receive compassions and absolute
agreements from their friends and families when they are going through a hard
time, instead of hearing the truth or the advices.
To sum up, I believe telling white lies if
necessary, and showing compassions are the most crucial considerations in order
to keep the good relationship.
