▶ Your Answer :
There might be some people who believe that knowing about events happening around the world is important, even if it is unlikely to affect people's daily lives. However, I personally disagree with the above idea for two subsequent reasons as follows. To begin with, people today do not have enough time to check events happening around the world. To be specific, many people are under a lot of stress and pressure due to the competitiveness of today's society. They already have their hands full by doing their own tasks and earning money, and they have more important tasks than knowing international events. According to a recent survey done by Korean National University's professor Kim, 81% of respondents said that they are very busy by working and learning new things every day, and it is more important for them than knowing international events which are not relevant with them. They added that today's society requires a lot of practical things such as working skills and communication skills in workplaces. They should learn about them for succeed in their life, so it is not useful and helpful for them to understand about global issues, and it might be pointless because they can do nothing but just know about them. On top of that, the events can make people stressful. This is because there are numerous world-wide events that deal with wars, natural disasters, and crimes, which can have negative effects on people's mental health. Plus, even if people can know about these events, they can do nothing so they might feel stress and uncomfortable. Let me bring my friend's story as an example. My friend named Tom used to watch global news programs on TV every night, because he thought that it is essential to know about international events as a person who lives in an era of globalization. However, after watching so many of them for over five years, he started to believe that nuclear wars will come in his country, France, soon and became so anxious. He said that he saw a variety of news about nuclear wars in Asia on TV, and the information made him feel so bad and worried, so he could visit a mental health clinic for a year to forget about his worries. If he had not known about international events, he might not have been stressed out.
In a nutshell, I strongly believe that knowing about events happening around the worlds is not important, because people today do not have time to know them and they can affect people negatively.
