▶ Your Answer : There might be some people who believe that knowing the past is important to overcome obstacles facing us now and in the future. however, in my opinion, understanding the past is not necessary to solve our today's problems. There are several reasons for this.
To begin with, modern society has developed high technology. Compared to the past, the invention of updated machines such as computers and smart phones have great impact on today's society. Since these machines did not exist in the past, knowing the past is not helpful to resolve problems related to these machines. For example, there was a poll conducted by the Ministry of Education with college students as respondents. The purpose of the survey was to understand the consensus view about the fact that comprehending the past was useful to solve troubles of machines such as haking or virus of online. The majority of respondents responded that understanding the past was not beneficial to solve these problems because these issues was not raised in the past.
On top of that, comprehending the past does not solve environmental issues. In the past, environmental problems such as air pollution, resources depletion did not exist. Therefore, knowing the past is not advantageous to solving these troubles. For instance, Busan, the second largest city in Korea, has serious air problem recently. Many people did not anticipate this problem because Busan was famous for clean air. The representatives of Busan has tried to resolve this problem, but they realized that understanding of history was not helpful to solve this problem. Then, they have researched other countries which suffer air pollutions. This demonstrates that comprehedin of history is not useful to solve recent environmental issues. To sum up, problems related to development of technologies and troubles of environment would not be solved by understanding the past. In this regard, I strongly believe that knowing of history is not enough to solve problems now and in the future.
