Some people think that teachers should be evaluated by the student’s achievements. However, in my opinion, teachers should not be paid differently by their pupil’s scores. There are two reasons.
To begin with, the amount of influence that teachers have on student’s academic achievements is not that great. Although teachers have a role of teaching their students well, more essential and important part is developing their social abilities. Good teachers are not the ones who teach well but who have a positive influence on their students. To give an anecdote, when I was a middle school student, I first met with teacher Jason. His class was so boring and at no time I thought that his teaching skill is good, but he is the best instructor of my life. He listened to my worry at any time and told me that I can achieve anything I eager. Thanks to him, I got confidence and became a high self-esteem student. Although he didn’t improve any student’s grades, he gave great respect from their students.
On top of that, there will be many side effects if teachers paid by their outcome. Education purpose of the teachers will be changed because there is no need for the teachers to teach their students outside of exam range. Teachers will teach them only for the examination and student’s range of their knowledge will become so narrow. Furthermore, teachers could force their students to study hard, not giving them opportunities to find their own aptitude. For example, my friend Sally had a great passion for painting. However, when she was a sophomore in high school, her teacher John just obsessed with scores of their students. He ignored Sally’s personal interest and forced her to concentrate on studying. Thus, she really suffered from her teacher.
To sum up, the role of teachers is not just enhancing their student’s academic performance. Moreover, if they paid by student’s achievements, that has no positive impacts on students. In this regard, I firmly believe that teachers should not receive money by pupil’s scores |
